Last night I noticed that the supermarkets have started with the Christmas displays, just a few items at the moment, but give them time. The last two years I’ve designed my own Christmas cards, it started because I couldn’t find any of the shop ones that I liked. Now I’ve done it for a couple of years I don’t feel like I can go back.
So, like the supermarkets, I have to think about Christmas early, as it normally takes me a while to think of the idea, design it and get the cards printed. The problem this year, is that I’m a little bit stuck for an idea of what to do. Two years ago I photoshopped an image of me so it looked like I was riding a sleigh. Then, last year I did this one. A tree made out of the names of the people I sent it too. I quite liked it, but a lot of people didn’t get it, “oh isn’t it a coincidence you found a card which has my name in”.
So, what to do for this year? I need to think of something that everyone will get and I’d like it to be funny. I only have one idea so far and that isn’t great.

Wow, you sure get started early! I usually don’t start panicking about this until after Thanksgiving. But I’m with you about making cards vs. buying…there’s really nothing good out there. Last year I spent way too much time doing it and I ended up making stickers and sending a sheet of stickers with a card that had a picture of a christmas tree on it, and people could decorate the tree. It was fun. My mom totally loved it. The year before, I made a simple card with some cartoon guys on it, there were four comic strip frames, with empty speech bubbles. I just filled out the bubbles differently for each person before I sent them and it looks like I spent a ton of time personalizing each card. I know someone who used to make yearly Christmas CDs, he’d gather some tunes from Elvis or Bing Crosby or someone and compile a CD, then send it to people. That’s probably illegal, but it’s all about the Christmas spirit!
