I always used to struggle with sandwich packaging. UK designs specifically, as other countries seem to have different packaging completely. The little triangular plastic cases used to open only down a single side. That meant it was often quite difficult to get the sandwiches out, especially if it was thick bread or it had a lot of filling. Admittedly nobody else seemed to find this a problem, they’ve had this design for years, but I did complain a lot about it.
So, I was really pleased to see Marks & Spencer’s new sandwich packaging. Now a pull strip opens the packaging on two sides, which fold out to make it easy to pick up your sandwiches. Also, you end up with a disposable plate to eat them off.

Comment by Darren — October 12, 2005 @ 11:01 amHandy! I always knew they made the best sarnies. Am I right in thinking that if they got rid of the cellophane window (not likely I know) it would be entirely recyclable too?

The film is made form a cornstarch-based biodegradable film - which means that all of the packaging is biodegradable.
Sweet isn’t it!
