Day 1: Adeja, Tenerife

The next few entries are going to be posted late (post-posted) as I don’t have an Internet connection here.

I arrived at the place I’m staying, Adeja Gran Hotel after a smooth flight to Tenerife this evening. Although it’s getting on for 11 at night, it’s still pretty warm (18C). The flight seemed pretty short compared to the last few I’ve been on. You can tell it’s a holiday (rather than business) crowd as it took ages for everyone to get onboard and sat in their seats. I couldn’t quite work out what the problem finding their seats was - they’re all numbered and lettered in a logical order. Anyway, once we were in the air, I relaxed.

I like travelling, but I do seem to find it more tiring than a lot of people (possibly because I get upset about things like the time taken to board an aircraft). So when I arrived in the hotel I was very tempted to go straight to bed. I’ve made that mistake before though, so forced myself to go and get something to eat. I knew I’d pay with a massive headache tomorrow morning if I didn’t. So I managed to find a sandwich and a donut from the supermarket. It was one of those Spanish donuts, that I haven’t had for years. I think I was introduced to donuts in Spain when I was about 6. They come in a yellow packet with brown bubble writing on. The design hasn’t changed since at least 1985. They’re the best donuts in the world. Ever!

Right, bed.

  • I don’t think there are people who DON’T get upset by things during travel. People aren’t meant to be standing in lines. (Although, I recently met someone from Russia who was like, “I spent my whole life waiting in lines, waiting for ten minutes in a line is nothing.” :-P) I’m always complaining about the people who make a big fuss and get filmed for those TV shows like Airline, but I recently became one of those visibly annoyed people. I didn’t really make a big scene, but it probably doesn’t help the people working at the airport to see other people roll their eyes and be upset. It’s a vicious cycle, though.
