Rainy Surfing

I tried (again) to take some surfing pictures down in Bournemouth. Last time it was snowing, this time it was pouring down with rain and misty. So the pictures didn’t come out that well and I got soaked. It was a shame though, the waves and rain made for quite a dramatic scene, but hard to capture. Maybe I would be better doing audio recordings instead. Anyway, I’ll try again, but it just needs the right sea/weather conditions.

Soundtrack to your Life: A Beginners Guide

We were talking at work today about how some of us walk around with our own personal soundtracks playing in our heads (we always talk about very important topics at work). Certain things happen during the day which triggers some connection in your brain and makes you think of a song. According to our very unscientific experiment there are three kinds of people: those who make no musical connections at all, those who make a musical connection to a song name and those who get the song instantly played in their heads.

I’m definitely in the third category. I’m always getting songs played in my head when something happens and I was surprised that it didn’t work for everyone. I’m not sure if some environmental factors are at work, or maybe I’ve just watched too many teen movies and TV shows which are particularly quick on their soundtracks.

Anyway, I feel sorry for the people who don’t get any soundtracks playing throughout their days, it must be so quiet. So here’s a beginners guide to your life soundtrack. Welcome to my world.

My Day: To Dull For Flickr’s DILO

Yesterday was Flickr’s Day In The Life Of. It’s a group were everyone has to take five pictures that represent their day. I was going to take part, but nothing really interesting happened yesterday, so I didn’t bother uploading them.

Day In The Life

Anyway, from left to right: Weetabix and tea for breakfast, swiping into IBM Hursley, directions to my office, laptop and PHP Cookbook, front door of my flat.

Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games have been on all weekend and it’s another opportunity to watch sports I’d never normally take any interest in. Today they had Synchronized Swimming. Understandably they get made fun of enough, with their nose pegs and waterproof makeup. I hadn’t realised that the performance starts out of the water. They seem to have to walk in the most unnatural way possible with their backs arched for extra effect, but then they do some fancy jump into the water. Now that’s more like it. That’s exactly how my younger brother and me used to compete on Holiday in Majorca when we were about 8. I’m thinking they could introduce other Shaw family holiday events into the next tournament. They could have lilo surfing, aqua head tennis, crazy golf and pool tennis ball skimming.

Seabrook Have Arrived Down South

My favourite crisps growing up were always Seabrook. I did have a brief dalliance with Wotsits and Hula Hoops, but I always came back. When I moved down South, they were one of the things I had to give up (along with Milk Bread, Sarsaparilla Tablets and Holland’s Meat and Potato Pie). For some reason, lots of Northern delicacies aren’t available down here.

Seabrook

Anyway, I’m really happy tonight as I just went to Sainsbury’s and found they are now stocking Seabrook crisps. I’m sure they’ll take off down here, they taste so much nicer than any other crisps. It’s only taken 60 years for them to make the journey down.
