Why is it that so many small red cars seem to suffer with their paint fading? Vauxhall Corsas seem to get it the worst, though Ford Kas aren’t too far behind. There seems to be a whole batch of them on the road. Maybe Enlgand just has bad atmospheric conditions for red paint, or maybe the distressed look is just in.

It’s all to do with the pigment put in red paints being more suceptible to “colour separation” than other colours. If you press your thumb on the paint then lift it off you’ll usually see the original red of the paint.

Comment by beav — April 30, 2006 @ 5:59 pmRed paint oxidises very easily, leaving behind a white coat on the surface. This makes the paintwork look faded.
Regular wax, polish and the occasional buff will restore the colour and help prevent this common problem.
