Wimbledon

I was at Wimbledon yesterday for work, demoing Ian’s Second Life project to people in corporate hospitality. It’s the first time I’ve ever been to Wimbledon so I did have a quick look around while I was there. It was different to what I had expected. It didn’t really feel like a sports event, more like a small version of a Disney park. I hadn’t realised that a lot of people go with a picnic for a day out, much like they would to a park. It doesn’t seem to matter which (if any) tennis games they get to see.

I did like how you can see some of the practice courts where the players are warming up. If football had something like that, I don’t think they’d be so public. I don’t know who it is, but I watched this women on the practice courts. This shot landed about an inch above my head (I was pressed up against the metal fence). I’m sure it was deliberate, she’s looking right at me. Would have made for an interesting IBM accident report anyway.

Watch The Game Cheryl Tweedy

After England scored yesterday, they cut to a shot of Victoria Beckham and Cheryl Tweedy in the stands as the goal went in. If it wasn’t annoying enough that they need to show two people who have nothing to do with the game apart from being wives and girlfriends of players, Cheryl wasn’t even watching when we scored. I must have been to 100s of professional football games and I don’t think I’ve ever missed a goal. She is quite hot, but that doesn’t mean she should be allowed to waste a World Cup ticket.

Reindeer Section

I don’t think this band are even around any more, but I just came across their Cartwheels track and I love it. It’s still here if you have iTunes. I’m going to listen to this for the rest of the day… until the football starts anyway.

Spinnaker Tower

Went up to the top of the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth today. They were building it the whole time I lived down there, but it was the first time I’d been up. It was always called the “Millennium Tower” while they were working on it, but I guess with it not being finished till 2005, they had to change the name really.

Spinnaker Tower

It’s pretty cool and there is a great view of Portsmouth, the Solent and the Isle of White from the top, it’s just a shame they don’t have an open air section at the top. You have to stay inside, behind some strongly tinted blue windows, which is a little weird.

Woah Nelly

Where the heck did that new Nelly Furtado track, Maneater come from? It’s completely different from her old stuff (and anything around at the moment) and I love it.
