Guitar Hero

For Christmas, I got my little brother Guitar Hero 2. It’s like dance dance revolution, only you have to play a guitar in time to the music instead of dancing. We’ve pretty much spent all the holidays playing it, it’s so addictive. The thing they’ve done really well is that when you’re doing well, you feel like you’re really playing the guitar.

Anyway, a side effect of the game is that I’ve got into some of the music it comes with, stuff I’d never normally listen to, such as Cheap Trick’s, Surrender. Now having watched the video of them doing it, I think I prefer my version.

Following on from 2003’s, 2004’s, and 2005’s, here is 2006’s Christmas Card

Originally, I was going to go for two versions. A work crossword and then a family and friends crossword, but it was just taking too long so I just had to combine them in to one. That did mean that people will struggle with some of the questions, but I don’t think it matters too much. I do quite like this one, but I have two better ideas for 2007.

Anyway, the answers are here.

Leona or Leona

Leona is only the second person I’ve liked from any of Pop Idol/Pop Stars/X Factor series (duh - the first was Sarah Whatmore obviously), so I was glad she won. The Marah/Christina high pitch warble isn’t everyone’s taste. So if you don’t like Leona, try Leona Naess instead.

Goldspot

Goldspot’s cover of Float On sounds great. It’s almost cheerful enough to distract me from the whole world using words like, “monetize”.

Zara Phillips

For those of you who didn’t realise, I’m no show jumping expert, but I do have a theory as to why Zara Phillips may have won BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year. Could it be that she bears a striking resemblance to Robbie Savage and all those people at home thought they were voting for the silky footed Blackburn midfielder?

If not, then it does make me worry over the British public’s ability to vote correctly. If we can’t be trusted with Sport’s Personality, are we really to be trusted to elect a parliament? Maybe democracy isn’t all that great after all. As I’ve said before, there’s nothing wrong with a dictatorship, it’s just a question of getting the right dictator.

If Leona doesn’t win X-Factor on Saturday, then we’re really in for it.

Roo and Timecode

Roo and I agree on a lot of things, but film choice isn’t one of them. Roo tends to like quite thoughtful, dialogue intensive (some may say arty) films, where as I like films that are very plot heavy, action packed or alternatively have Reese Witherspoon in.

I liked Crash, Roo hated it. He loved Garden State, I thought it was like a bad version of Dawson’s Creek. So normally, we can use this solid opposite foundation as a film recommendation system to each other.

Tonight though, I’m stuck. I just watched Timecode (yes it is 7 years old, I’m behind) and I thought it was brilliant. The trouble is, it also felt like the sort of film I think Roo would like. It’s like a mashup between Crash and Garden State. I think it could it could go either way.
