IBM Rocks shows what IBMers are listening to around the world.
It works by combining data from LastFM and our internal directory, then displays the results on a Poly9 3D earth. It was designed and developed over a cup of tea for an internal IBM Situational Application contest. And really, who needs business value when you can make something look pretty?
Paula thought of the idea and I was chief code monkey / design tart.
I’d want to be able to write an opening line like The Enemy did on This Song.
Half the kids who you grew up with were pushing prams by the time that they were just 16. If love is a drug then where is the cure for the girl who used to talk to you about her dream.
I think that’s fantastic.

I really don’t like these over sentimental public events. You know, the ones that have their continual 2 minute video clips interrupting to make you feel sad/happy/like donating loads of money.
None the less, I’m watching the Diana concert and Kanye’s just been on. He was good, but did nobody check the lyrics first? He was doing Touch The Sky. I knew the line was coming, but he’s not going to sing it is he? Surely? Yes, I did shout it out with him, “a hip hop legend, I think I died in an accident “. Brilliant.
